What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup that gives the client the ideal brow shape and fullness. This semi-permanent process creates tiny scratches that are filled in with pigment to look like natural brow hairs. It is ideal for those who have sparse, disappearing, or overplucked eyebrows, as well as for those who want to improve the architecture of their existing brows. Even clients with alopecia who have lost their eyebrows completely can have multidimensional, beautiful, and natural-looking brows again with microblading.

What Does It Involve?

The professional microblading process uses a handheld tool that looks like a rattail comb with a thin blade and 10-12 tiny needles. It differs from tattooing in that it doesn’t use a typical tattoo gun, the pigment is less concentrated, and it isn’t embedded as deeply in the skin. The blade is much thinner than the microneedles, creating very precise hairlike strokes. Depending upon the individual’s skin type and lifestyle, the results can last anywhere from 1 to 2 years.

Since the procedure does break the skin, there is some aftercare required to prevent infection. The client must keep the area dry, avoiding face washing, showers, or sweat. They will need to apply an antibacterial ointment for the first 24 hours, then a thick ointment for a week. Retinol or acid facial treatments must be avoided until the wounds have healed to prevent fading of the pigments.

Can I Perform Microblading on Anyone?

There are some people for whom microblading is not recommended. In more detail throughout our microblading academy training, we’ll discuss some general guidelines that identify those who are not good candidates for microblading the brows. They include those who answer yes to any of the following:
