Is Microblading Permanent? A Complete Guide to How Long Microblading Last

Women spend a lot of time and resources maintaining their beautiful eyebrows. Compared to other eyebrow enhancement methods, microblading offers a more long-lasting solution. So, how do you ensure that microblading lasts, and how long does it last? This article is a comprehensive guide on how to make microblading last.

Lisa OM is a professional microblading artist who recommends a good microblading aftercare routine that guarantees a smooth healing process. We also have a prestigious academy that provides the best training and assists many people in becoming licensed microblading artists

Is Microblading Permanent?

Microblading is a popular procedure that helps to increase eyebrows volume and cover conditions such as alopecia, offering a semi-permanent eyebrows solution. So, how long does microblading last? Microblading is not permanent but is a semi-permanent cosmetic method where nine microblades are used to insert pigment into the skin, creating a fuller eyebrow appearance. This process fills up your natural eyebrows with matching pigment to fit the color and shape of your actual eyebrows.

Microblading differs from traditional tattooing because traditional tattooing is a permanent process. Microblading, however, requires a touch-up 4 to 6 weeks after the original procedure.

Microblading Is Semi-Permanent

Is microblading permanent? Microblading is a form of tattoo used for eyebrow enhancement. This method is not permanent because the pigment only penetrates up to the dermal-epidermal junction, between the dermis and the epidermis.

The pigment is gradually pushed out of the body with time. The pigment requires touch-ups to maintain it as its color deteriorates with time. Even with maintenance, microblading serves you temporarily.

Microblading is semi-permanent to create the most natural-looking eyebrow improvement. It also prevents the pigment implanted from changing into an undesirable color over time. This color change is common with permanent cosmetic tattoos, as taught in our training.

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Some factors can cause your microblading to fade more quickly, while others make it last up to 3 years. In addition, how you care for your eyebrows during the healing process significantly impacts the microblading procedure’s outcome and longevity.

Microblading longevity for different people depends on their skin type. Persons with normal to dry skin are the best candidates for microblading. Their microblading can last for at least 18 months.

Microblading mainly doesn’t last long on a person with oily skin. This limited span is because the sebum physically forces the pigments out; thus, oily skin can significantly reduce the lifetime of microblading effects.

In essence, microblading does not last for persons with those who have large pores because larger pores produce more sebum. These people can still undergo microblading but need more touch-ups to make it last. They can also consider an ideal substitute to obtain powder brows, which last longer on oily skin.

Will My Microblading Fade Completely without Touch-Ups?

Microblading pigments do not disappear completely. These lingering pigments mainly happen if the pigments are implanted deep into the body’s inner layers. However, due to some of the pigment’s ingredients, the body may also keep them since the body cannot break some pigment components. Therefore, while touch-ups help to maintain microblading, each body system breaks down pigments differently.

How to Get the Best Microblading Results

You should maintain the eyebrows as dry as possible for ten days after the microblading procedure. Keeping your eyebrows dry is ideal for healing since water on the eyebrows washes out the microblading ink from the skin.

It is also advisable to avoid a hot climate soon after microblading because it might make you over-sweat. Sauna treatments and gym activities can also cause over-sweating, washing out the ink from the skin. In this regard, keep your face from water for impressive results.

When clients and students ask how long microblading last, we respond by giving them guiding steps to get amazing microblading results, as follows:

  1. Adhere to aftercare guidelines
  2. Avoid sunlight during the recovery period
  3. Get a proper touch-up six weeks after the procedure
  4. During the recovery period, do not apply makeup over your eyebrows
  5. Wax your eyebrows every two weeks to maintain the shape
  6. Keep your skin properly hydrated by taking the right diet and enough water

What Factors Determine How Long Microblading Lasts?

Microblading results often last between 12 and 18 months without additional touch-ups. However, several circumstances can cause your microblading to fade more quickly, while others increase its longevity by up to three years.

It is essential to be informed of all the factors that affect the permanency of your microbladed eyebrows and what to expect if you plan to get them. The following are the most crucial aspects that determine the durability of microblading.

Microblading Aftercare

The aftercare you give your eyebrows during the healing process significantly influences the microblading procedure’s outcome and durability. Your artist’s recommended microblading aftercare regimen should guarantee that the pigment settles appropriately and the skin recovers without any issues.

Scabs develop as the cuts heal. Picking at the scabs might cause them to lose their coloring if they aren’t handled properly. Therefore, you risk erasing strokes and undoing the treatment if you don’t adhere to aftercare recommendations.

Skin Type and Texture

Dry skin retains color longer than oily skin, as the ink is better absorbed into cells and lasts longer when oils are absent. On the other hand, skin that is too oily will have shorter-lasting results and, in some situations, experience a gradual softening of the fine lines. These factors change the look of your eyebrows naturally. Consult your physician to determine your skin type and ensure this is your most effective treatment.

Powder brows are a preferable alternative for customers with excessively oily skin and textures who desire microblading. Instead of a manual tool, a tattoo machine is used to apply powder brows, making it semi-permanent makeup.

Excessive Sweating or Swimming

When you engage in physical activity or reside in a hot and humid atmosphere, your body produces plenty of sweat. As sweat exits the skin around the eyebrows, it can carry trace amounts of pigment and can hasten microblading fading.

Another element to consider is the different compounds prevalent in perspiration; salt can speed the drying and extraction of pigments. Similarly, saltwater, especially ocean water, reduces the lifespan of microblading results. At the same time, chemicals in swimming pools can cause a chemical reaction that causes pigments to fade or change color quickly.

Frequent Sunlight Exposure

Too much sun exposure causes skin discomfort for everyone. When exposed to cosmetic tattoo pigments, the pigment in the skin undergoes an active reaction. As a result, the pigment changes color and fades faster than it should, necessitating several microblading touch-ups after the initial visit to maintain a lovely shade.

Certain Skincare Products and Facials

Specific skincare and anti-aging products can affect the lifespan of your microbladed eyebrows by accelerating the breakdown of pigments. You should generally avoid treatments containing retinoids, vitamin A, and abrasive exfoliants if you have microbladed eyebrows.

A good skincare routine should focus on keeping your skin hydrated and healthy, particularly the skin surrounding your eyebrows. During your initial visit, you should speak with your doctor if you have questions regarding the products to use to maintain microbladed brows.

Pigment Quality

Microblading lasts longer if the pigment is of high quality. The price of the pigment treatment indicates the quality of the pigments. Artists who charge more are more inclined to use superior pigments.

Your Overall System

Some people are more sensitive to PMU pigments than others. Thus, their systems exert significant effort to remove them.

Microblading might last less on anemic clients if iron-oxide-based pigments are used, as the pigment absorption alleviates their iron shortage. Sadly, it is challenging to tell how your body would react to the pigments.
